Eye Opener

We went to Joplin last Sunday to volunteer at a Distribution Point.  Before checking in we took the girls into the devastated area so they would have an understanding of what they were helping with.  It was such an eye opener.  I found myself fight back tears several times.  I felt guilty driving through looking at the area.  I just wanted to get out and help...but where do you begin?   I couldn't bring myself to take pictures.  What if that were my home town?  Would I want people driving by my home and taking pictures of the wreck that was left?

We were able to meet some of our friends at the distribution point.  It was fun getting to serve alongside them.  Our family got assigned to help in the Baby tent.  While our friends served in the food and medical tents.  We helped organzie items that were being donated.  We were able to help a few families load up on items that they needed.  The families were so thankful for the help and just grateful to be alive.

As we left the distribution point, Hannah says "That is what I am going to do when I am older.  Just travel around to devastated areas and help people!  Can we come back next week?"  :)

As I tucked Allee into bed when we got home she said "I just can't imagine not having all my stuff."  What a great lesson on our "stuff" isn't what is important.  It is our relationship with God that will get us through any trial that we are faced with.

Emma has painted seveal pictures in the last couple of days and says, "This is Joplin."  Interesting to see what is seen through a 6 year olds eyes.

It definatley makes you reflect and think about what is most important in your life.  And it confims that our "stuff"  is just stuff...It can all be destoyed in an instant.  We all need to look at our priorities!
Thank you God for opening our eyes!
